This reminded me a mix of Fears to Fathom & Do You Copy?
I cannot wait to see more from this game and was certainly expecting more. The atmosphere and story was soo creepy!
Here is my video!

This was hella good! The concept, atmosphere, and audio were eerie and done exceptionally well. Good pacing too! Loved the demo and I hope the game turns out as you envisioned it.

This is my favorite intro/demo to a horror game that I've found so far on itch.io. Every thing from the art style, to the pacing, the sound design, to the dialogue... excellent. I am extremely excited to play the full game, and itching to get back into this world. Check it out if you love good horror games, pass on it if you hate puppies.

There are horror games and then there's FRS. The driving loop at the beginning, the DJ filling in the blanks about what's going while you drive, the guy at the gas station giving you the creeps. A tone is set, yet nothing serious has happened yet. 5 star rating [even thought it's still a demo].

The only thing I would add is: the choice to switch off sub titles, as they are very distracting to me. For the rest, nothing but a BIG thumbs up!!!

I didn't run into any bugs, hiccups or other snags, so kudos to all involved, and thanks for making this [demo] game! Looking forward to the real deal!

Good game, A little different from what I expected but that's not a bad thing. I like how diverse the elements of the game were going from a dark trail walk, To a spooky drive along a road to waking up in the fire watch tower I thought it was good how the change of pace kept changing. Well done!

Albeit being like a Pilot Episode, it is very loose, and you don't get much from the Story, only that it's about missing people in the woods, and things are about to go down. I'd like you to lean into the Twin Pikes vibe, so it can be a bit different than all the "Fears to Fathom"-esque creepy Slice of Life Experiences, where you walk around, go to a store (we didn't buy anything?), drive around a bit etc. lots of them follow the same routine, vhs-optic, a few of them are here on Itch.io.

But i think your differentiating factor should be that vibe, i love the shots of the Car from the woods when getting to the Gas Station, or how the Clerk is surrounded by darkness and the poem gets read. Lean into this more, get rid of the VHS-static, and tell more about the Story through Gameplay, it's always cliché in horror, that you immediately see a show/radio/missing people posters, where the oncoming threat is jammed into your face. Or how NPCs tell you about the creepy things that are happening (and are definitely going to happen to YOU!). More subtle Storytelling would be great instead of text, i have to admit the one on the road got me good, because i wasn't expecting it at all. But add a few things where you really have to look, e.g. the scaffolding where you drive through, could have the silhouette of a person standing there, watching you, that you see again but only if you look for it. Especially the Radio is one of those things, good voice acting but it's too on the nose.

And again the guy in the Suit reminding me of Twin Peaks, that can be used for any direction (or just a fat red herring) of the Story. More of a surreal Story would work great. Lean into that, the groundwork is already pretty cool. Good Job, keep going!

//and please for people like me, add a disable option for the VHS-Setting if it's going to be in further Episodes :-*

Enjoyed the concept behind FRS: The Pilot, from the eerie start walking through the woods, to the ominous, nightmarish looping Quick'N'Go and then the firewatch tower, looking forward to seeing more from this series. The forest section had a creepypasta/Blair Witch vibe going on, then the looping convenience gas stop reminded me of Wayward Pines/Twin Peaks/Here. Finally the end section made me think of Fears To Fathom: Ironbark Lookout - and you even get to drive! Lots of things happening in this pilot episode, so eager to find out more.

Pros:

  • Great voice acting - enjoyed listening to Mike Stone on the radio and would love to hear more from the DJ in subsequent episodes.
  • Got to admit - the jump scare got me. Wasn't expecting it - really good job of building tension and subverting this particular player's expectations.
  • Feel that there's a grander, larger story boiling to the surface, and intrigued to find out where this is going. Great astecthics and even though it's a fairly short playthrough, it packs in a great deal for the player to absorb.

Cons:

  • More nit-picking than anything else, but would have loved some puzzle/interaction mechanic for the ranger - the gas stop section (although eerie) felt a little hollow with regards to actually doing anything. He stopped in there to get supplies, but we didn't actually leave with anything. Perhaps the car could be on its last legs and the ranger needs to repair it before he leaves? Or maybe he needs to get something for the mysterious Dale Cooper character?
  • Ended too abruptly. God damn it I want more!

Eagerly anticipating this report to be submitted to the FRS. :)

Really love the theme of this one. I think some tweaking is needed with the sequences at the gas station, they are super jarring when you snap out. The overall aesthetic, the firewatch tower, and the voice acting are REALLY good. I'm super excited for the concept also, can't wait for more!

Really enjoyed this! I'm excited to see where this goes next. It had a little touch of From, PT, Twin Peaks and Firewatch mixed into one. I'm invested in it. Great job.

Only complaints/suggestions:

I wish dialogue had its own volume slider

Driving Controls need work (car doesn't re-center when letting go of Left/Right)

VHS Effect could be toned down slightly. It's not bad that it's there but the full width lines that sometimes pop up are distracting

Outside of that, it was great! Best of luck with the project :)
